Past Tense in the English language is divided into four types:

  1. Simple Past Tense
  2. Past Continuous Tense
  3. Past Perfect Tense
  4. Past Perfect Continuous Tense

Examples of Past Tense:

Simple Past Tense

The Simple Past Tense is used to indicate actions that were completed in the past.

  • He visited the museum.
    (ही विजिटेड द म्यूजियम)
  • She watched a movie.
    (शी वॉच्ड अ मूवी)

Past Continuous Tense

The Past Continuous Tense is used for actions that were ongoing at some time in the past.

  • I was reading a book.
    (आई वज़ रीडिंग अ बुक)
  • They were playing football.
    (दे वर प्लेइंग फुटबॉल)

Past Perfect Tense

The Past Perfect Tense is used for actions that were completed before a certain point in the past.

  • I had finished my homework before dinner.

  • She had gone to bed when I called.
    (शी हैड गॉन टू बेड व्हेन आई कॉल्ड)

Past Perfect Continuous Tense

The Past Perfect Continuous Tense is used for actions that were ongoing until a certain point in the past.

  • I had been studying for two hours when he arrived.

  • He had been working there for five years before he left.
