Introduction to Pronouns

Pronouns are words that replace nouns to avoid repetition. They can refer to people, places, things, or ideas.

Personal Pronouns

  • First person: I, me, my, mine, we, us, our, ours
  • Second person: you, your, yours
  • Third person: he, him, his, she, her, hers, it, its, they, them, their, theirs  

Examples:

  • I went to the store.
  • You should eat more vegetables.
  • He is a good friend.
  • She likes to read books.
  • It is a beautiful day.
  • They are going to the party.

Demonstrative Pronouns

  • This, that, these, those

Examples:

  • This is my book.
  • That is a beautiful flower.
  • These are my friends.
  • Those are my books.

Interrogative Pronouns

  • Who, whom, whose, which, what

Examples:

  • Who is that?
  • Whom did you meet?
  • Whose is this book?
  • Which one do you prefer?
  • What are you doing?

Relative Pronouns

  • Who, whom, which, that, whose

Examples:

  • The man who lives next door is a doctor.
  • The book that I am reading is very interesting.
  • The woman whose car is parked outside is my neighbor.

Indefinite Pronouns

  • Everyone, everybody, everything, someone, somebody, something, anyone, anybody, anything, no one, nobody, nothing, one, another, other  

Examples:

  • Everyone should be treated with respect.
  • Somebody stole my wallet.
  • Nothing is impossible.
