Common Adverbs

Adverbs are words that modify verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs. They provide more information about how, when, where, why, or to what extent an action is performed.

Here are some common adverbs:

Manner Adverbs:

  • Quickly: with speed
  • Slowly: at a low speed
  • Carefully: with caution
  • Happily: joyfully
  • Sadly: with sorrow

Time Adverbs:

  • Now: at the present time
  • Later: at a later time
  • Yesterday: the day before today
  • Tomorrow: the day after today
  • Often: frequently
  • Always: all the time
  • Never: not ever

Place Adverbs:

  • Here: in this place
  • There: in that place
  • Everywhere: in all places
  • Inside: within
  • Outside: in the open air
  • Upstairs: on a higher floor
  • Downstairs: on a lower floor

Frequency Adverbs:

  • Always: all the time
  • Often: frequently
  • Sometimes: occasionally
  • Usually: generally
  • Never: not ever

Degree Adverbs:

  • Very: to a great extent
  • Quite: to a considerable extent
  • Extremely: to a very great extent
  • Too: excessively
  • Rather: somewhat
