Let’s Role-Play Some Workplace Scenarios!

Here are a few common workplace scenarios that we can practice.

Scenario 1: Dealing with a Difficult Colleague

  • Situation: You’re working on a team project with a colleague who is consistently late and doesn’t contribute much.
  • Your Role: A team member who is frustrated with the situation.
  • Possible Dialogue:
    • You: “Hey, I’ve noticed that [colleague’s name] has been late to our meetings lately. Do you think we should talk to them about it?”
    • Colleague: “I’m sorry, I’ve been really busy. I’ll try to do better.”

Scenario 2: Giving Feedback to a Supervisor

  • Situation: You’ve been working hard on a project, but your supervisor seems unhappy with the results.
  • Your Role: An employee who wants to understand the supervisor’s feedback.
  • Possible Dialogue:
    • Supervisor: “I’m not entirely satisfied with the outcome of this project.”
    • You: “I’m sorry to hear that. Could you please be more specific about what you’d like to see improved?”

Scenario 3: Handling a Conflict with a Coworker

  • Situation: You and a coworker have different approaches to completing a task.
  • Your Role: An employee who wants to find a solution that works for both of you.
  • Possible Dialogue:
    • Coworker: “I think we should do it this way.”
    • You: “I understand your perspective, but I have a different idea. Let’s discuss the pros and cons of both approaches.”
