Past Tense: Forming Sentences and Questions
Past Tense is used to talk about actions or events that happened in the past.
Simple Past Tense:
- Regular Verbs: Add -ed to the base form.
- Example: I walked to school yesterday.
- Irregular Verbs: Have different past tense forms.
- Example: She ate an apple.
Forming Questions:
- Begin with a helping verb: did, was, were
- Place the subject after the helping verb.
- Keep the main verb in the base form.
Example:
- Did you walk to school yesterday?
- Was she hungry?
Negative Sentences:
- Use “didn’t” or “wasn’t/weren’t” with the base form of the main verb.
Example:
- I didn’t walk to school yesterday.
- She wasn’t hungry.
Using the Simple Past Tense
- I played football yesterday.
- She watched a movie last night.
- We visited the museum last week.
- They didn’t go to the beach yesterday.
- Did you eat breakfast this morning?
- Was she happy yesterday?
Using Irregular Verbs
- I saw a movie yesterday.
- She went to the store.
- We ate dinner at a restaurant.
- They didn’t drink coffee.
- Did you see the movie?
- Was she sick?
