Basic Conversations with a Doctor or Pharmacist

Here are some common phrases you might use when talking to a doctor or pharmacist:

Describing Symptoms:

  • “I’ve been feeling [symptom].”
  • “I have a [symptom].”
  • “It hurts [location].”
  • “I’ve been experiencing [symptom] for [duration].”

Asking Questions:

  • “What could be causing this?”
  • “Is there anything I can do to relieve the symptoms?”
  • “Do I need a prescription for this?”
  • “How long will it take to recover?”
  • “Can you recommend a medication?”

Following Instructions:

  • “I’ll take [medication] [dosage] times per day.”
  • “I’ll follow your advice.”
  • “I’ll let you know if my symptoms worsen.”

Example Dialogue:

Patient: “Doctor, I’ve been having a headache for the past few days.” Doctor: “How severe is the pain?” Patient: “It’s a throbbing pain, and it’s getting worse.” Doctor: “I’ll prescribe you a pain reliever. Take one tablet every four hours as needed.” Patient: “Thank you, doctor.”
