Types of Sentences: Simple, Compound, and Complex

1. Simple Sentence: A simple sentence contains one independent clause. It expresses a complete thought.

  • Example: The cat is sleeping.

2. Compound Sentence: A compound sentence contains two independent clauses joined by a coordinating conjunction (and, but, or, so, yet, nor, for).

  • Example: The cat is sleeping, and the dog is playing.

3. Complex Sentence: A complex sentence contains one independent clause and one or more dependent clauses joined by a subordinating conjunction (after, although, because, if, since, when, while, etc.).  

  • Example: Because the cat is sleeping, the dog is playing.

1. Simple Sentence:

  • Prompt: Describe a daily activity.
  • Example: I eat breakfast every morning.

2. Compound Sentence:

  • Prompt: Combine two simple sentences about your hobbies.
  • Example: I like to read books, and I also enjoy watching movies.

3. Complex Sentence:

Prompt: Write a sentence about a cause and effect relationship.
