Lesson No 21C-Introduction To Present , Past & Future Perfect Tenses

Present, Past, and Future Perfect Tenses: A Quick Introduction

Perfect tenses in English are used to express actions that have been completed before a certain point in time. They combine the verb “have” (or its past form “had”) with the past participle of the main verb.

Present Perfect Tense

  • Form: have/has + past participle
  • Use: To express actions that started in the past and are still continuing or have just finished.
    • Example: I have lived in Jaipur for 5 years. (I still live here.)
    • Example: She has just finished her homework.

Past Perfect Tense

  • Form: had + past participle
  • Use: To express actions that were completed before another action in the past.
    • Example: Before I moved to Jaipur, I had lived in Delhi for 10 years.

Future Perfect Tense

  • Form: will have + past participle
  • Use: To express actions that will be completed by a specific time in the future.
    • Example: By the end of this year, I will have finished my English course.
