Common Verbs in English
Verbs are words that express actions, states, or occurrences. Here are some of the most common verbs in English:
Action Verbs:
- Go: to move from one place to another
- Do: to perform an action
- Have: to possess or own something
- Be: to exist
- See: to perceive with the eyes
- Say: to speak
- Think: to have a thought or opinion
- Know: to be aware of
- Feel: to experience a sensation
- Want: to desire something
Linking Verbs:
- Be: to exist
- Become: to start to be something
- Seem: to appear to be
- Look: to appear to be a certain way
- Sound: to have a particular sound
- Taste: to have a particular flavor
- Smell: to have a particular odor
- Feel: to have a particular sensation
Helping Verbs:
- Do: used to form questions and negatives
- Have: used to form the perfect tenses
- Be: used to form the passive voice and progressive tenses
- Will: used to express future tense
- Can: used to express ability
- Could: used to express possibility or ability in the past
- May: used to express possibility or permission
- Might: used to express possibility
- Should: used to express obligation or advice
- Must: used to express necessity or obligation

- I go to school every day.
