हम दो भाई बचे थे एक ही मकान में रहते हैं। मैं पहली मंजिल पर और भैया निचली मंजिल पर। पता नही हम दोनों भाई कब एक दूसरे से दूर होते गए। एक ही मकान में रहकर भी ज्यादा बातें न करना, विवाद वाली बातों को तूल देना,यही सब चलता था।

भैया ऑफिस के लिए जल्दी निकलते और घर भी जल्दी आते थे, जबकि मैं देर से निकलता और देर से लौटता था, इसलिए मेरी गाड़ी हमेशा उनकी गाड़ी के पीछे खड़ी होती थी।

हर रोज सुबह गाड़ी हटाने के लिए उनका आवाज देना मुझे हमेशा अखरता, मुझे लगता कि मेरी नींद खराब हो रही है। कभी रात के वक्त उनका ये बोलना नागवार गुजरता कि बच्चों को फर्श पर कूदने से मना करो, नींद में खलल पड़ता है।

ऐसे ही गुजरते दिनों के बीच एक बार मैं बालकनी में बैठा था, कि मुझे नीचे से मकान का गेट खुलने की आवाज सुनाई दी। झांककर देखा,तो पाया कि नीचे कॉलोनी के युवाओं की टोली थी जो किसी त्यौहार का चंदा मांगने आई थी।

नीचे भैया से चंदा लेकर वो लोग पहली मंजिल पर आने के लिए सीढ़ियाँ चढ़ने लगे, तो भैया बोले – *अरे !! उपर मत जाओ, उपर-नीचे एक ही घर है।”

युवाओं की टोली तो चली गई पर मेरे दिमाग में भैया कि बात गूँजने लगी – *उपर नीचे एक ही घर है।मैं शर्मिंदा महसूस करने लगा कि भैया में इतना बड़प्पन हैं, और मैं उनसे बैर रखता हूँ ? बात सौ दो सौ रूपयों के चंदे की नहीं बल्कि सोच की थी, और भैया अच्छी सोच में मुझसे कहीं आगे थे।

अगले दिन से मैने सुबह जल्दी उठकर गाड़ी बाहर करना शुरू कर दिया, बच्चों को हिदायत दी कि रात जल्दी सोया करें ताकि घर के बड़े चैन से सो सकें, क्योंकि – हमारा घर एक है।

छोटी-छोटी बाते ही दिल की नजदीकी/दूरियां बढाती है।सदैव सकारात्मक सोचें।

We were two brothers living in the same house. I was on the upper floor, and my brother was on the lower floor. I don’t know when we drifted apart as brothers. Despite living in the same house, we hardly spoke, avoided contentious matters, and that was how things went.

My brother used to leave for the office quickly and return home early, while I left late and returned late. Therefore, my car was always parked behind his car.

Every morning, his voice calling to move the car would disturb me; I felt my sleep was being disrupted. Sometimes at night, he would advise not to let the kids jump on the floor, as it disturbs sleep.

During those passing days, I was sitting on the balcony once, and I heard the sound of the house gate opening from below. Peeking, I saw a group of young people from the colony who had come to ask for donations for some festival.

Taking the donation from my brother downstairs, those people started climbing the stairs to reach the upper floor. My brother said, “Hey!! Don’t go upstairs; it’s the same house upstairs and downstairs.”

The group of young people left, but the words “Upstairs and downstairs, it’s the same house” started echoing in my mind. I began to feel ashamed, realizing that my brother had so much magnanimity, and I harbored resentment towards him. It wasn’t about the donation of a hundred or two hundred rupees, but about the thought. My brother was ahead of me in positive thinking.

From the next day, I started getting up early in the morning to move the car outside. I instructed the children to sleep early at night so that the elders at home could rest peacefully, as our house is one.
